Braving the typhoon for a manicure

Last week, I experienced my first typhoon 8 since I've moved to Hong Kong! It wasn't anything big or dramatic but I was overjoyed when school was cancelled that day because I desperately needed the day to finish my homework.

Lucky for me, the signal warning was lowered in time for me to head to Salon Nova to be pampered with a gel manicure. I love gel manis because they're the one way I can grow my puny nails out!

Salon Nova is well known in Hong Kong for their hair services. They've also been doing on-demand manicure services for clients for years but recently chose to launch a full fledge manicure service.

The salon offers soft and hard gel manis but since I needed to extend my nails, the hard gel was recommended. They have some themes like celebration, galaxy and gold glitter. I chose the secret garden set for myself which had the pretty pastel colours of the Korean brand, GellyFit!

Hello puny nails!

We spent a good one hour getting my nails extended. Before gel nails came along, the only way to get your nails extended is to put those fake nails on. But now with gel, it's amazing! They can extend them to any length you want and it feels like it's part of your nail.

And tadaaah! In an hour, my nails grew much longer. It's weird having them so long because it changes my mannerism from the way I type on the phone to scratching my head.

After that, we went to check out Polkadot Boutique along Hollywood Road. The boutique stocks local and international brands like Dolce Vita (hurray!!). You can see the boutique when you're walking along the mid-levels escalator which I always do on the way back home.

Hong Kong has a lot more small-medium enterprises when compared to Singapore. That also means that it's much harder to find shops because they are often small and hidden in buildings. Don't judge Hong Kong by their old, dirty buildings! Most of the times, there are gems hidden inside on every floor.

Dolce Vita White Lace Top, HKD1535; Zero Noir Sage Bandeau, HKD110; Line&Dot Parrot Shorts, HKD620

Dolce Vita Hylan Teal Peplum Top, HKD1365; Esley Black Dress shorts, HKD280; Emi & Eve Iris Clutch, HKD850; Carmen Chan Jewelry Dream Necklace in 18K Rose Gold plated Pendant Necklace, HKD1380

Polkadot boutique also stocks Carmen Chan Jewelry. I met Carmen when I attended my first event in Hong Kong and it's been a pleasure to know her since. She hand makes all her pieces which I like because it maintains the human touch to it. I have the Dream necklace in the picture and was quite tempted to buy the Dance one too!

She has lovely rings too with the words 'Feel Love' that wraps around your finger. Oh by the way, Carmen Chan Jewelry is now available in Singapore at Mythology

Okay, now you have some ideas of what to do when you're in Hong Kong?
