Finally someone has brought along a new modelling TV show that isn't from Tyra Banks! America's Next Top Model was so good but now that it's hitting nearly 20 seasons, the show seems to be losing its novelty factor (like when you stopped watching Home Alone after season 3?).
Enter The Face, a modelling competition judged by three supermodels- the great and notorious Naomi Campbell, Victoria's Secret Karolina Kurkova and one of my favourites, Coco Rocha. Each supermodel takes 4 aspiring models under their wings which is amazing to me because these contestants get valuable and personal interaction with their coaches.
Hosted by fashion photographer Nigel Barker (who got cut from ANTM), the 12 contestants compete in an individual test shoot challenge and a team challenge every week. One team will win the team challenge while the two losing teams will have their supermodel coaches nominate someone for the team up for elimination. The winning team's coach will then decide who goes home.
Apart from Nigel Barker's irritating 'British' accent, I have been enjoying this show a lot! Both Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova are very nurturing coaches while Naomi Campbell is more like a 'tough love' kind of coach. However, she does care about her girls a lot. Or maybe, she just cares that one of her girls win? There are some points when elimination rounds become weird because Campbell would want to eliminate the competition (a.k.a. strong contestants) while the other two would eliminate the one who deserves to go home.
Pretty complicated? Well, it's interesting because you have 15 girls in one room who are all trying to be friends and enemies at the same time. And that is why The Face is just so awesome!
