Do it like Balenciaga

Sometimes while I'm shopping, I see a close replicate of the season's hottest designs and I begin to feel conflicted. On one hand, I feel happy as a consumer that high fashion is now more affordable. Then I feel sad because as an aspiration fashion designer, these designers are creating only to see people make money off their designs by copying them.

That's why I think tonnes of luxury brands probably hate Zara for the fact that their company produces close reproductions of the runway's hottest ready-to-wear pieces at more affordable prices while providing pretty good quality! What more, the owner, Amancio Ortega is now the world's fifth-richest person.

All these thoughts aside, I'd like to talk about the Balenciaga spring summer 2013 collection. Balenciaga has always been one of my favourite labels because of how they make women look so strong and powerful while being themselves. Although I may not be able to pull these 'power-driven' looks off, I still admire Nicholas Ghesquière a lot for his respectful vision of a woman.

For their spring summer 2013 collection, Ghesquière produced his sensual collection ever- mixing it with their signature industrial, modern look. The first look below was my favourite along with their side-ruffled skirts. The white moulded bustier wrapped the model like second skin and created a good emphasis on her body shape. Even Kristen Stewart, the face for the brand's fragrances looks stunning.

 On a side note, don't you think it looks like a modern remake of Jennifer Grey's look in Dirty Dancing?

Anyway, I found a close replica of the white moulded top on Nasty Gal recently. If you're hearing cheers, that's the happy consumer inside me because the bustier is an affordable SGD37! It lacks the clear criss-cross of the fabric but the essence of the look is there.
