Heartfelt

Lately, I've been feeling pretty fuzzy and mixed inside. One thing I've been thinking a lot about is death. It is a taboo topic but at such an age, I think God has presented me with the opportunity to think of what I would really like to do with my life.

At my uncle's funeral, mom commented that when we die, we take nothing with us; no status or no wealth follows. The poor and the rich die the same way, bodies burnt in a fire and spirits taken elsewhere. It is in these moments that you realise the sovereignty of God and the fragility of life. You could strive to be the greatest person, work your life away for a better one but when you die, everything disappears.

So then, if we can't take anything with us, what are we on Earth for? I personally believe that we are here to learn and to experience. We learn to love, to cry, to do new things and never look back. More importantly, I believe that we are here to learn and experience God. If we were always in heaven, I don't think we'd learn how sovereign God is, how awesome he is to create the world which we can't even fight with. We are here to make friends, to have people to cherish and to love. We learn what it is to feel sad in order to know what happiness really is. We travel to new places to widen our imaginations. In all, if we stayed in heaven, I doubt we'd really understand how awesome God is.

I leave you with a quote that has been repeating endlessly in my mind: "It is not length of life, but depth of life." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
