The fun thing about having an avid interest in fashion while studying business is the type of news I look out for and analyse. We don't talk too much about fashion in classes but when I find news where I can apply the concepts I learnt, I'm pretty happy!
Just a month ago, J. Crew announced that it will open its first store in Lane Crawford, Hong Kong. Founded in America in 1983, J. Crew is now looking to attract the sophisticated Chinese consumer. Brands like Burberry have preferred to open in Hong Kong, a vibrant society which provides a more stable and secure business and legal environment. However, Chinese consumers who are known to be more brand conscious have made some speculate on the success of J. Crew in attracting the right crowd but CEO Mickey Drexler believes they offer an alternative not available in the market place today.
I love J. Crew for their high-quality apparel that comes in beautiful colours. Although I've never bought anything from them before, I often admire their pieces online. Designed in what I think is American minimalistic aesthetics, J. Crew offers great collections for the fashionable professional. I look forward to visiting the J. Crew store at Lane Crawford when I visit my boyfriend in Hong Kong!
Ps: Check out some videos by Garance Dore and Scott Schuman, The Sartorialist, for J. Crew!
Haha, now you get to see the business side of me!
