Happy hands

So hello July! The transition from June to July absolutely caught me off guard after I found myself mourning the impending end of my summer holidays! Three months of bumming around (not totally) has never past so quickly before and sadly, this may be my last summer holidays, if I don't go on to do another degree.

Yesterday, Mom brought me to Chinatown to see Golden Dragon. It's this store full of handicrafts from knitting to cross-stitch, quilting to embroidery. I wasn't very interested in anything other than some flower making thing till I saw this cute little ring and an image inside. Then suddenly I realised that it was a picture illustrating hand embroidery! Some say that a picture speaks a thousand words and this one really did because hand embroidery looked so understandable and easy to be all of a sudden!

So in my excitement, I bought the set with the needle and a pattern for $37 and while finding a roll of embroidery thread, met one of the staff there who spent some time teaching me how to thread the needle! She was so nice to demonstrate it for me without me asking! And that's probably why my mom goes there every week to learn knitting. The staff there will teach you how to knit according to the pattern you buy as long as you spend $40 or more at their store! Mom tells me there are quite a number of old ladies there every week knitting and chatting over each stitch which is so special to me, hearing about the existence of physical communities in this day and age.

I forgot about the hand embroidery set I bought till later yesterday after dinner when I decided to pick it up and give it a try. Boy oh boy, is it fun! I was just drawing faces before that so I decided to embroider one and taddddaaahhh, for my first try, I made a pretty cute one to me. I like the eyebrows the most, hehe. The effect I like about embroidery is the innocence of the product. It's hardly overdone. You can redo it if you're unhappy with the stitch you just made and you can take your time creating the image you want.

Ah, I feel like going to back to learn something new again! Teach me something and once I learn it, my hands will do the work happily. What happy hands I have, thank God!

Ps: Golden Dragon is at 101, People's Park Centre, Upper Cross Street #02-51 Singapore 058357, Telephone number 6535 8454.
