Chanel Cruise 2010 Collection
Chanel will be unveiling their Cruise 2014 collection in Singapore come 9 May. Nobody knows the location of the show and everyone is busy speculating but my guess is Marina Bay Sands.
While telling many of my friends about the news, I've come to realise that many don't understand what's going on. Basically, for every upcoming season, Chanel would unveil their new collection at a chosen location. This isn't the same as showing the runway show again in a different location. This is like the debut of a collection. For the major seasons like Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter, they will be held in Paris. For the Cruise collection that falls between Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer, they have been held at different places in the world. In previous years, they were held in Saint Tropez, Versailles and Venice.
So what does this all mean for Singapore?
Firstly, I would think that it raises the value and standard of Singapore as a country or a fashion capital. To be chosen by Karl Lagerfeld as THE PLACE for him to unveil his collection is an honour to the country!
Secondly, the past cruise collections were inspired or centered on the runway location itself. The recent one held at Versailles was influenced by the French Revolution while the one in 2010 was inspired by Coco Chanel in Venice. In what way could Karl Lagerfeld be inspired by Singapore? Could he be the first designer to create the iconic Singapore dress?
Beyond the show, I am excited by the people who will be coming. When Chanel has a runway show, there will be famous editors, photographers, models and international celebrities. Will we see Karlie Kloss, Cara Delevigne, Lindsay Wixson, Blake Lively, Leigh Lezark, Anna Wintour, Tim Blanks, Miroslava Duma and Mario Testino on our shores? Just thinking about the people who will be here is just making me high even if I would be 20km away from them.
So, do you now get why everyone is so excited? :)
