Sunglasses for Spring Summer 2013

Yesterday, I attended the press presentation by Safilo which distributes and carries eyewear for luxury brands like Gucci, Dior, Bottega Veneta and Alexander McQueen. So, what's up for Spring Summer 2013?

Well, as usual, my selections revolve around colour. Prints go off the clothes and onto eyewear for summer, as seen above with Dior. Gold studs are also new additions to the frames!

Alexander McQueen

Marc Jacobs

Round sunnies are still trending, ever since Prada's banana collection a few seasons back!

If you're looking for more dainty glasses, I would recommend those from Kate Spade above! The collection has a great range of colour and cute details like the polka dots and stripes on the inside of the frame. Or, you could try Bottega Veneta which has slightly thicker frames with tortoise shell prints at the side.

I was pleasantly surprised by the details from this Max & Co frames. Can you see why? The frames seem to be clipped by the supporting frame! How cool is that?

Out of all of the sunnies, this Marc Jacobs piece is my favourite. The reflective blue lens are uber cool and I love the gold details on the ray-banish blue spotted frames! Ah, reflective lens are just too cool.

Special mention goes to Gucci with their  tortoise shell vintage inspired sunglasses! The gold bar on the top is just so Gucci- glamourous and sexy.

I'm actually thinking of buying a good pair soon. You really don't know whether these cheap sunglasses actually protect your eyes from UV! I heard that some glasses are only tinted dark and that's really bad because the dark lens makes your pupils dilate (bigger). So when the sun hits your sunglasses, the UV goes past your lens and into your widened pupils! Ah, that is way worse than not wearing sunnies at all!

  1. Hi Dawn,

I liked your post on eyewear. I am launching a company in Singapore selling eyewear online. THe collection will be very boutiqe style exclusive designs and will be offered at prices far lower than the usual stuff in every optical outlet. We will also offer free exchange for one year and also a home tryon facility for atleast 5 frames that you can keep with you for a week absolutely free!!

My question to you- Do you think Singaporeans are ready to buy eyewear online?
