Samsung Fashion Steps Out 2013

Yesterday, I had the privilege of catching Samsung Fashion Steps Out 2013. For two hours, they closed Orchard Road and turned it into a runway. You could almost say that 'fashion stopped traffic'.

I was really surprised at the hordes of people who turned up and stood by the road to watch! Most of the attendees were already melting in the humidity (yes, even though the show was at night!) so I have so much respect for people who stood by to wait. Well, thank God it didn't rain or that would have been worse!

We started the evening with drinks at the Champagne Sundowner at Ion Orchard. Just when it turned 8, the traffic police stopped cars from heading into Orchard Road and fashion took over! I think it would have been a mad rush for the organisers. In two hours, they had to prepare for a fashion show, stage it and then clear up. 

The area that was cordoned off for the night was from Ion Orchard to Takashimaya. That made up a good 658m of runway. When the show started, a huge truck drove in to the middle but sadly, we couldn't see much that was happening. Finally when the fashion show actually started, all I could see was models entering from the other end of the road but you'd have to wait a few minutes before they'd finally walk over to you.

On show yesterday were 12 brands: Joe Chia, Ashley Isham, Fausto Puglisi, Victoria, Victoria Beckham; among others. My personal favourite was Fausto Puglisi. The dresses were really show pieces, embellished in crystals and studs everywhere but done in a tasteful manner. If you stare hard enough, you'd realise that his style looks so familiar because Anna Dello Russo wore one of his dresses! A model wore it yesterday too but somehow I think she looked better it in, though she was much skinner!

Anyway, yesterday I invited Crystal along to watch FSO with me! It was her first 'fashion' event so it was interesting time answering her questions and getting her insights into fashion. She and I came to also support our friend, Natali, was walking in the show! 

There you go! That's her in the middle, wearing the white blouse! We played a game- whoever spotted her first won a drink and guess who won? Me :) Anyway when she came by, Crystal & I started waving and taking photos like a fan girl! Nat, of course, maintained her posture. She has such a good poker face! Oh, I better remember that. 

PS: By now, you'd probably realise how I like to have fun at events, playing games and all. I can't maintain an icy exterior and I don't think fashion should be like that anyway.
