Photo diary: Bangkok

Last week, I paid my first visit to Bangkok as a tourist. The last time I went, I was there for a competition and all the shopping I got to do was at Platinum Mall. This time, I'm sure I saw more and walked far more streets with young souls Fiona & Jon.

I was surprised at how God brought us straight to the indie shops I was looking for. At our very first stop, we stumbled upon Terminal 21 which my sister-in-law told me about. The mall was designed with a different theme on every level but little did we know that there was a wealth of local shops inside with their own designs. Each level was catered for a particular group too, one being menswear and another being accessories.

First floor was Rome, second was..

Paris! (say hi to Fiona!)

Third floor- Japan! Konichiwaaaa :)

Jon makes a happy purchase at "I don't have a name".

LMFAO robot?

London!

After that, we left the mall and went to Siam only to find that Siam Centre was closed for renovations :'( So we took a walk around and found more little shops around the corner. I saw quite a few fakes, like the Versace aquarium dress, the Mary Karantzou for Topshop dress and a Gucci Spring Summer one! I was so tempted to buy the Mary Karantzou one but you could tell that they "photocopied" the prints off the real one.

Following that, we joined the local night market with lots of cheap clothes before finishing it off with dinner.

Durian? Nah, fish roe!

The first day was perfect simply because we found the shops we wanted to and we had a beautiful studio apartment to stay in, with an infinity pool to soak ourselves anytime of the day. Jon found it online at this site called airbnb.com which allows you to rent people's apartments for your stay in a country instead of a hotel!

On the second day, we started with breakfast at a cafe just below our condo. The food was good!

Street food!

Then we decided to go to the Grand Palace, only to hear that it was "Buddha's day" from a tuk tuk driver. That meant that the King of Thailand would leave his palace to pray at the Grand Palace and we couldn't go anywhere near. So we headed to Khao San where the backpackers stayed and true enough, it was very touristy even in its products.

Buddha's day?!?!?!?

Turns out, Buddha's day was fake. We ended up going to the Palace pretty late and had 1 hour to roam about the place till a thunderstorm showed up and rained us in :'(

On the third day, we went to Ekkamai and Thonglor area to see the places recommended by 8 Days.

Then Jon brought us to Roast at Thonglor Soi 13 for lunch which had pretty good food! It was like Jones the Grocer.

Duck Confit

Seafood Stew

Vodka Pasta

Half Baked cookie dough with ice cream

And on the last day, we went to Chatuchak Market! I was so excited because it was my first time and I've heard so much about it. Most of the market is like the local pasar malam but there's a stretch with indie shops that I loooove!

I enjoyed Bangkok a lot because of the cheap and good food and not to mention, the cheap transportation too! If I go back to Bangkok again, I would definitely go to Terminal 21!
