Lust List: Grunge inspired

The sad thing about life sometimes is the way society plans your life out for you the moment you're born. In an Asian country, you'd study till you get a degree, work, get married, have kids and grow old. And when "abnormalities" like dropping out of school or divorcing your spouse occur, society frowns upon you and just keeps silent.

That's probably why the grunge movement is one of my favourite phases in fashion history. When it first began in Seattle, much of the music produced mixed punk and alternative rock together. As a fashion buff, I like how the anti-establishment sentiments of this movement affected the way people dressed. They were not as outrageous like the punks in London with spiked hair and studs all over their body. Instead, women chose to dress against the normal conventions of what made a woman sexy.  They went out in long skirts in checks, baggy tops layered over tight inner wear and spiked shoes. It must have been the rebellious attitude against all things fixed and rigid that appeals the most to me.

What's your favourite fashion movement?

PS: Nasty Gal is having 30% of all Litas till 19th August!
