Just this Monday, I went down to see Hansel's Fall Winter 2012 collection entitled 'The Puffin'. Known as the 'clowns of the sea', these animals have inspired designer Jo Soh with their colourful beaks. In store, she showed a video of the puffin crashing into the side of a tanker ship, eventually turning into a print for on her cotton dresses. Despite the heat in Singapore, the designer has also created a few knit pieces, ranging from dresses to cardigans for the cold (elsewhere).
In addition, she has also collaborated with a Singaporean jewellery designer, Trixie Khong from By Invite Only to create pieces that complement The Puffin collection. This includes feathered necklaces to fish-shaped charms.
Designer Jo Soh showed her creativity well by taking an image of a puffin and expanding it wide into a strong collection. The puffin too provided a great palette of colours of play with, from blues to oranges. These contrasting colours went well together, on knits or in prints. And here's a little secret: I overheard a customer exclaim in chinese: These birds are just too cute!
Included in the collections are also some pieces with the trendiest cuts like a white and black Peplum top. If you do have the chance, visit Hansel at Mandarin Gallery, which is just beside Orchard Cineleisure, at 02-14.
