'The Unusual Suspects' at Mad Nest

Yesterday, I was down at Madnest, a new enclave with food and creative happenings, for 'The Unusual Suspects' exhibition that features four collaborations between local street style photographers and illustrators.

I loved the whole idea of local talent collaborating with local talent to achieve new works. All of the works were beautiful in their own way.

I liked Street Peek's for the cute fairytale like illustrations and characters. The subjects were beautifully shot and it felt like they were living in the fairytale. Shentonista's were like photographs drawn over by a kid with crayons. This child-like-ness is reminds me that no matter how old we are, we are still like children inside. It's a plus for him that the background makes his work distinctive and recognisable.
Lilreddotfolks had an interesting approach of using illustration to bring the subject matter to life. The collection was almost saying 'Fashion brings colour into your life'. Funny thing was that the monochromatic side looked like an accurate portrayal of the normal Singaporean who makes no effort to dress up- shirt, shorts and slippers (3S).

Unlike the other three, Sartorial Daily's work was more personal. They were presented like a personal sketchbook and included scribbles by the subject matter. It was a pity that the faces of the people were all taken away- so I couldn't exactly make out who was who till someone told me. The writing by #6 by Frey herself touched me the most.

All the works can be purchased for $100-$280 a print. Visit the exhibition at Mad Nest, 378 East Coast Road!

Ps: #ootd yesterday: Mash-Up dress and New Look black booties
