Dries Van Noten Fall Winter 2013

I have always been attracted to Dries Van Noten's collections because of the way he combines two different worlds so effortlessly. Last season, he mashed a pretty floral girl with a 90s grunge kid to create of one my favorite, most inspiring collections ever. This season, he plays with menswear and womenswear.

Now, when have we not heard of that story before? Women in men's clothing. (Yes, men have always complained that we can do that but they can't do it the other way round) It may sound like an old concept but Dries Van Noten took the extremes of both and put them together. For example, he took lace, a very feminine element, and placed it on a huge structured men's jacket. The main inspiration for womenswear was ballroom dancing, and hence the tassels and the feathers.

My first favourite look from the collection were the big white shirts with lace on them. Which woman doesn't like wearing men's clothing? I think it's the comfort and space we have in this shirts, opposed to the tight blouses, that we like. The feathers, used in different patterns and intensities, was another favourite. Sometimes they were spread across the dress and in other times, they were clustered together at the hips. The last was the prints, of course! This time, they were more subdued in colour and looked very much like batik cloth.

The grunge girl has grown up!
