I was inspired by Urban's rant about Apple's service today to write a little rant of my own. Just this week, I had two eyeball-rolling moments with service personnel. One was at Cold Storage and another at Twelve Cupcakes.
On Sunday night, I went to Cold Storage near my place and bought a chilled San Pellegrino. It was stocked next to the express counter and was chilled for you so one would think it was meant for a grab and go situation. And since we're in Singapore and most bottles are plastic, most of us don't carry bottle openers around. So since San Pellegrino was a glass drink with a bottle cap, one would require a bottle opener. Which... the service counter should have. When I approached them, they said no, and the reason was because they didn't want customers to drink in the store. So how about after I paid up? No, they don't have one- end of story.
The other eyeball-rolling moment was at Twelve Cupcakes. I bought two cupcakes, so they had to package it separately. And when I paid up, the service staff told me, "Don't swing your arms when you're carrying this." Urrrrrm? Yes, people don't go round swinging their arms with the cupcakes but eventually mine still fell towards the side and the cream got smudged all over the plastic cover. Some cupcake stores put scotch-tape at the bottom of the holders to ensure they stay down for awhile. The best so far as been Plain Vanilla though, with their awesome brown cupcake boxes.
I've given feedback to Cold Storage already and as silly as it sounds, little things are these should have been provided for in the first place. They say that Singaporeans have very high expectations when it comes to service but if they fail at providing the minimal service required, what can we say? Service should be a logical thing- the basic things should be provided for. So, am I being picky or not?
