Fall's Five

I've been making a conscious effort to spend more time drawing in order to prepare my portfolio for submission soon. In the process, I've been looking at tonnes of images of the Fall 2012 collections and thought of putting together my personal top five favourites for Fall.

The first would definitely go to Alexander McQueen! Creative director Sarah Burton did such a wonderful collection. It was not only innovative and new but also so clear and held together visually! Inspired by corals, Sarah Burton created beautiful and wearable pieces for us land mermaids. The incorporation of fur, long sleeves and thick fabrics was perfect for fall. Personally for me, this collection has shown how all-rounded and strong she is in carrying on the McQueen name.

Taking second position is Stella McCartney. I started out liking fashion when she was designing at Chloe and she has never stopped producing beautiful collections. The latest Fall collection inspired by Olympics blends sportswear and femininity beautifully, with some pieces featuring woven brocade designs.

Third would be the last Raf Simons collection done for Jil Sander. Simple and pure, Raf Simons presented an elegant collection for a modern lady. You could see how his simple and minimalistic lines have been used in his first collection for Dior.

Fourth for me would be Gucci. A standout in the runway show was the evening pieces, where Creative Director Frida Giannini made the models look like dark angels. Strutting down in long flowly black silk chiffon, the dressed seemed have grown onto the models, creeping out onto their body bit by bit. Frida always does sexy glamour at Gucci and has never deviated away from that path.

Last for Fall's five would be Vena Cava. Into it's eight year, I personally liked the use of black in this collection. Mixed with bold magnolia prints, the collection was a reinvention of vintage clothes for me. I particularly liked the t-bar strap heels with the dress and the polka dotted high waisted pants.

That's my Fall's five favourites. What are yours?
