Art Stage 2013

I dropped by Art Stage yesterday at Marina Bay Sands before catching one of the last few shows of Jersey Boys at night. Located at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre, the place houses 130 galleries from all over the world from Singapore to Tel Aviv (yaye!) with a focus on modern art.
Take a walk around the space and you'd begin to be amazed at the things artists can come up with. I think artists have a very special mind given from God to see the world in a different perspective.

Take this sculpture for example. Done like Giacometti's tall and linear sculptures, I was visually baffled while standing in front of this 'man'. He was done in a 3 dimensional way that looked 2 dimensional. For awhile, my sense of sight was challenged and my brain could not comprehend what was before me.

Then there was Carlos Cruz-Diez that gave my eyes another workout. He made optic art look so beautiful but when you start to analyse the artwork upclose, your eyes begin to lie to you.

Of course, there are famous artists like Nam June Pak and Pablo Picasso up for viewing. I was just in awe standing in front of those pieces. To think that the works of famous artists was within a metre from me was just so humbling! (I'm sorry, I'm a little bit of an art geek/freak here)

But out of all of them, this piece by Uwe Kowski inspired me the most. The coordination of pastels on this canvas, along with the use of light to create something so soothing took my breath away. It feels like a morning mist rolling by a mountain, a patch of flowers, a creek... GIPFEL is its name.

As with all art, you would see some gruesome and disturbing artworks on display. Well, do find it a privilege to be placed in a position of discomfort, because Art has the ability to do that.

Art Stage is located at Marina Bay Sands Convention Hall, level B2. Tickets for adults are $33 while concession tickets (for students/NS men/ senior citizens) are $11. The space is open from 12 to 7pm till Sunday, 27 January.

Ps: if you are planning to go for Art Stage, take some time to attend Epicurean which is at L1!

PSPS: Jersey Boys was good! Loved the songs, even before the musical, and love them even more after!
